Chanel’s return to Grand Palais
Chanel is set to make its much-anticipated return to the Grand Palais after a four-year hiatus for renovations, with a ready-to-wear show planned for 1st October. The fashion house has also reaffirmed its dedication to supporting future cultural events at this iconic Parisian venue.
As the 21st century commenced, Karl Lagerfeld—whose creativity knew no limits—envisioned even grander spectacles for Chanel, particularly concerning his runway sets. The Grand Palais, renowned for its 11story glass dome, served as the primary venue, while Lagerfeld consistently designed awe-inspiring sets. He showcased everything from a replica of the Eiffel Tower, a bar, and a merry-go-round to a supermarket and a massive Chanel jacket, demonstrating his prowess not just as a designer, but as an extraordinary showman.
Regarding the upcoming show, Chanel has yet to appoint a new Creative Director following the exit of Virginie Viard, leading to much speculation about potential successors. Among the rumoured candidates are Jacquemus, Pier Paolo Piccioli, and John Galliano, who is expected to depart Maison Margiela upon the conclusion of his contract, despite Anna Wintour advocating for his return to Dior. Hedi Slimane is also mentioned as a favoured option by the younger audience, and he was previously chosen by Lagerfeld himself.
For now, all eyes are on Chanel as it prepares for its return to the Grand Palais
